The 1^st International Conference on Portuguese Language and Lusophone Relations (LUSOCONF2018) will be a time and a place to share and build knowledge in several domains. Notwithstanding, Lusophone relations will be its identity element. Many have pointed the importance of the relation between knowledge and language. Among us, Raúl Brandão was right: “words are what help us, so that we have something to hold ourselves to”. LUSOCONF will live on that knowledge, but, also, on that particular sound and meaning of the words of the language that units us and that expands us. Not a perfect language, but the language of our relationships, the language by which we exchange knowledge, the language by which we understand each other and understand the world, the language that gives voice to our dreams and to our hope.
